MIDWAY, Ky. — Midway University and Clark's Pump-N-Shop have teamed up to honor one male and one female student-athlete each week as the Clark's Pump-N-Shop Athletes of the Week.
The weekly award recognizes the outstanding performances of one male and one female Midway student-athlete. Winners are selected by the department's head coaches based on their performances from the previous week and are announced each Monday morning on the Midway Athletics website and social media platforms.
"Clark's Pump-N-Shop is proud to be the sponsor of the Midway University Athletes of the Week for both men's and women's sports," said Rick Clark, co-owner of Clark's Pump-N-Shop.
George Spencer of the men's soccer team is this week's male Athlete of the Week. Spencer had an impressive showing as the men's soccer team defeated Cincinnati-Clermont 10-0 on Friday afternoon. Spencer recorded a hat trick on six shots, five of which were on target. The senior hails from Yeovil, England, and is majoring in accounting.
Lanie Cornelius of the women's volleyball team is this week's female Athlete of the Week. The Eagles went 2-1 over their three matches last week. Cornelius recorded 15 kills over that span while adding two assists and two digs. She also contributed at the service line, recording two aces against WVU Tech. The sophomore hails from Odon, Indiana.
