Tennessee Wesleyan topples Midway Women's Tennis

Midway, Ky. – After facing nationally ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) on Friday, the schedule didn't get any easier for the Midway University women's tennis team as they hosted Tennessee Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (10-5) were receiving votes in the latest coaches' poll and they showcased why as they swept the three doubles matches as well as the six singles matches en route to the 9-0 win.

After falling 8-0 at No. 3 doubles, the duo of Kennedy Bowman (Frankfort, Ky.) and Diana Burkee (West Allis, Wis.) put up a hard fought fight at No. 2 doubles, but they ended up falling 8-2.

Then at No. 1 doubles, the duo of Rachael Walker and Wendi Watson downed Midway's duo of Erin Pigman (Harrodsburg, Ky.) and Elizabeth Toth (Algonquin, Ill.) by a final score of 8-1.

In singles action, Tennessee Wesleyan would continue to flex its muscle as they would sweep all six singles matches.

The closest singles contest came at No. 3 where Bowman lost the first set, 6-0, to Rachael Walker, but in the second set, she would win three games as Walker won the set 6-3.

Midway will return to action on Sunday morning when they return to River States Conference play when they host Indiana University East at 11 a.m. ET at the Thomas R. Post Tennis Center.
