BEREA, Ky. -- The Midway University women's tennis team returned to the courts on Friday, April 13, when they snapped their three game losing streak by picking up a 7-2 victory over Berea (Ky.) at the Wilson Evans Tennis Complex in Berea.
The Eagles (10-8) took a 2-1 lead into singles play after they had won two of the three doubles matches. Midway went on to win five of the six singles matches en route to the 7-2 victory.
The No. 1 doubles duo of Annette Tran (Austin, Texas) and Erin Byassee (Paducah, Ky.) got the visitors off to a strong start with an 8-0 win over Alicia Bedolla and Erin Goodpaster.
Midway's other win in doubles play would come at No. 2. Sophomore, Madison Chambers (Pennsville, N.J.) and freshman, Amber Pierce (Liberty, Ky.) and picked up an 8-2 win over Ashley Ferrell and Agnes Dotse.
The Mountaineers won their second point in the match at No. 4 singles. Midway, however, went on to win the other five singles matches in straight sets.
Tran won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles over Alicia Bedolla, Byassee won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles to chinch the match, while Pierce won 6-0, 6-1 over Ashley Ferrell at No. 3 singles.
Meanwhile, Jilian Verbrugghe (Macomb, Mich.) and Raquel Tyo (Grove City, Ohio) also won in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Verbrugghe won 6-4, 6-4 over Marranne Conge and Tyo won 6-0, 6-3 over Jaden Johnson to finish off the 7-2 victory for the Eagles.
Midway will return to action on Saturday, April 14, when they host Indiana University Kokomo at 2:30 p.m. ET. Due to the weather forecast, the match will be played at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
