Women's Tennis suffers conference defeat to IU Kokomo

HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. -- Following a non-conference victory over Muskingum (Ohio) a week ago, the Midway University women's tennis team returned to action on Friday afternoon when they traveled to Indiana University Kokomo for a River States Conference matchup.

The Eagles won just one of the three doubles matches before winning the first singles match to tie it at 2-2. The Cougars, however, would go on to win four of the next five singles matches en route to the 6-3 victory.

After the Cougars took the opening doubles match at No. 2, the Eagles got on the board with a win at No. 1. The sophomore duo of Annette Tran (Austin, Texas) and Erin Byassee (Paducah, Ky.) picked up an 8-4 win tying the match at 1-1.

IU Kokomo won the final doubles match taking a slight 2-1 edge, but the Eagles knotted the match up at 2-2 following a win at No. 2 singles. Tran collected a straight sets victory – 6-0, 6-1 – over Hannah Hudson.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Cougars would go on to win four of the final five singles match as the cruised to the 6-3 victory.

The final win for Midway came at No. 4 singles where Carly Poste was battling Zoe Bixler. Poste, a freshman from Las Vegas, Nev., won the first set handily 6-2, but Bixler won the second 6-3 to force a third set. Poste won the third set 6-3 to make the final score of the match 6-3.

The Eagles will now a quick turnaround as they take on Carlow (Pa.) on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. ET in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
