Midway Wrestling goes 3-2 at Blithe Memorial Duals

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Following a couple weeks away from action, the Midway wrestling team returned to the mat on Dec. 1-2 when they traveled north to Grand Rapids, Mich. for the Blithe Memorial Duals hosted by Cornerstone (Mich.).

The Eagles got off to a tough start, going 0-2 on day one, but they bounced back in a big way on day two going 3-0 to bring their dual meet record to 3-3 on the season.

Wisconsin – Eau Claire 46, Midway 3

The Blugolds, who are currently ranked No. 3 in the NCAA Division III ranks, dominated the dual winning nine of the 10 weight classes en route to the 46-3 victory. Kyler Adams (No. 18 at 141) picked up the lone win for the Eagles with an 8-2 decision victory over Bo Niewiadomski.

St. Ambrose 29, Midway 21

Tyrique Simms picked up a second period pin over Jacob Alexander to level the match at 6-6, but the Bees recorded back-to-back decision victories to take a 12-6 lead after four weight classes.

Abe Hafez (157) and Jabril Williams (165) then carded back-to-back second period pins to give Midway an 18-12 advantage heading into the final four weight classes. The Bees, however, clinched the victory after carding a tech fall victory and back-to-back pins.

Byron Pierce (No. 15 at 285) made the final score 29-21 after picking up a 4-1 sudden victory over Jeremiah Morris in the first overtime period.

Midway 43, Siena Heights 10

The Saints jumped to a 4-0 lead early on, but Midway would win eight of the final nine weight classes to cruise to the 43-10 victory. Simms notched a forfeit victory at 133 to give the Eagles the lead for good.

Nolan Jones (141), Hafez (157), Sebastian Hutchinson (174), and David Emfinger (197) each picked up pin fall victories, while Kaleb Clark (149) and Jabril Williams (165) picked up a pair of tech fall wins. Bryon Pierce, meanwhile, had a 1-0 decision victory to seal the easy win.

Midway 28, Wheaton 18

The Thunder won three of the first four weight classes to claim an early 14-6 lead, but the Eagles won five of the final six en route to the 10-point victory. Kyler Adams picked up an important pin fall victory at 141 to help slow Wheaton's hot start early on.

Hafez then won a decision at 157 and Williams won by fall at 165 to give Midway a slim 15-14 victory. After Wheaton regained an 18-15 lead, the Eagles won the final three weight classes to claim the 28-18 victory.

Trace Insalaco kickstarted the run with a decision victory at 184 before Emfinger broke an 18-all tie with a major decision at 197. Aaron Garcia then clinched the victory with a second period pin over Jaseph Kruse at heavyweight.

Midway 48, Muskegon 3
