Men's Tennis Concludes Non-Conference Slate Against Tigers

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Midway men's tennis team played its final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday when it took on regional rival Georgetown (Ky.). Despite the Blue and Gold splitting the six singles matches, the host Tigers won the doubles point and held on for a 4-3 win.

With the loss, Midway sees its record drop to 5-9 this season while Georgetown improves to 6-11 overall.

In doubles play, the pairing of German Collado (Alcala de Henares, Spain) and Julian Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) picked up a hard-fought 7-5 win at the No. 2 position. Unfortunately, Georgetown won the matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots to earn the doubles point.

In singles action, Aditya Roy Chowdhury (Kolkata, India) rallied from a set down to earn a 4-6, 6-1, 10-3 victory at the No. 2 slot. At No. 3 singles, Paul Wamba (Dschang, Cameroon) cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win and Lakshay Vivek (Haryana, India) picked up a 6-4, 7-6 (4) triumph in the No. 4 position to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead in the match. The hosts then earned wins at the No. 5 and 6 positions to pick up the 4-3 match win.

The Eagles will return to River States Conference play on Saturday, April 15 when it hosts IU Southeast (Ind.). First serve for the final "home" match of the year is scheduled for 12 p.m. E.T. at the Falling Springs Tennis Center in Versailles, Ky.
