GEORGETOWN, Ky. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Midway women's tennis team made the short trip to take on Georgetown (Ky.) in its final non-conference match of the season. Thanks to a pair of victories in doubles matches and three singles victories, the Blue and Gold picked up a 4-3 victory over the Tigers.
With the win, the Eagles improved their record to 6-10 overall while Georgetown falls to 5-12 for the season.
In doubles play, the pairing of Agustina Olivero (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Mara Guillen (Madrid, Spain) earned a 6-4 win at the No. 1 position. At the No. 2 slot, Isabella McKinney (Paducah, Ky.) and Ana Larreal (Maracay, Venezuela) also picked up a 6-4 win to earn the doubles point for the Eagles.
At No. 1 singles, Olivero completed yet another undefeated day when she earned a 7-5, 6-1 win while Larreal took a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at the No. 3 position. The Eagles clinched the dual when Grace Froedge (Louisville, Ky.) claimed a hard-fought 0-6, 6-1, 10-8 victory at the No. 6 position.
Midway women's tennis will return to conference play when it hosts IU Southeast (Ind.) on Saturday, April 15 at the Falling Springs Tennis Center. First serve for the home finale is scheduled for 12 p.m. E.T. in Versailles, Ky.
