Men's Tennis Sweeps IU Southeast

VERSAILLES, Ky. – The Midway men's tennis team played its final "home" match of the 2023 season when it welcomed IU Southeast (Ind.) to the Falling Springs Tennis Center. After taking two of three doubles matches, the Blue and Gold swept the six singles matches to earn a 7-0 victory over the Grenadiers.

With the win, Midway improves to 6-9 overall this season and 2-1 in the River States Conference while IU Southeast falls to 2-12 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

In doubles play, Aditya Roy Chowdhury (Kolkata, India) and Paul Wamba (Dschang, Cameroon) earned a 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position. The Eagles then clinched the doubles point when Spencer Counts (Krum, Texas) and Julian Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) cruised to a 6-1 victory at the No. 3 slot.

In singles action, Lopez completed an undefeated day with a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win at No. 1 while Chowdhury picked up a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at the No. 2 slot. Wamba earned his second victory of the afternoon by a score of 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and Lakshay Vivek (Haryana, India) won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4.

German Collado (Alcala de Henares, Spain) picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles and Owen McCarter (White Bluff, Tenn.) closed out the shutout with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 6 position.

The Eagles will close out River States Conference regular season play on Sunday, April 16 when it takes on IU East (Ind.). First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. E.T. in Richmond, Ind.
