RICHMOND, Ind. – The Midway men's tennis team wrapped up its 2023 regular season on Sunday when it faced off with IU East (Ind.). After taking two of three doubles matches, the Blue and Gold claimed four of the six singles matches to pick up a 5-2 victory over the Red Wolves.
With the win, Midway improves to 7-9 overall this season and finish the year 3-1 in the River States Conference while IU East falls to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
In doubles play, the duo of Daniele Trentin (Venice, Italy) and Izan Casado (Leon, Spain) cruised to a 6-0 victory at the No. 3 position. The Blue and Gold then clinched the doubles point when the team of Julian Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) and German Collado (Alcala de Henares, Spain) picked up a hard-fought 7-6 (4) victory at the No. 2 spot.
In singles action, Lakshay Vivek (Haryana, India) gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at the No. 3 position, while Paul Wamba (Dschang, Cameroon) claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2. The Blue and Gold clinched the victory when Trentin picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at No.5 and Owen McCarter (White Bluff, Tenn.) closed out the day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
The Eagles now turn their attention to the RSC Championship. The first round is scheduled to be held on Friday, April 28, in Evansville, Indiana.
