EVANSVILLE, Ind. – On Friday afternoon, the Midway men's tennis team opened its postseason when it took on IU East (Ind.). Following two flawless victories in doubles action, the Blue and Gold swept three singles matches to earn a 4-0 triumph over the Red Wolves and advance to its first River States Conference Championship match in program history.
With the win, Midway improves to 8-9 overall, while IU East falls to 3-7.
In doubles action, the duo of Daniele Trentin (Venice, Italy) and Izan Casado (Leon, Spain) cruised to a 6-0 win at the No. 3 slot. The Eagles then clinched the doubles point when the team of Paul Wamba (Dschang, Cameroon) and Adita Roy Chowdhury (Kolkata, India) soared to a 6-0 win at the No. 1 position.
In singles play, Lakshay Vivek (Haryana, India) earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 while German Collado (Alcala de Henares, Spain) surrended just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 4 position. Midway then closed out the sweep when Owen McCarter (White Bluff, Tenn.) picked up a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 6 singles.
With the win, the Eagles will face off with Oakland City (Ind.) on Saturday, April 28 in the RSC Championship match. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. E.T. in Evansville, Ind.
