EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Just six days after their previous encounter, the Midway women's tennis team returned to the courts to face off for a second time with IU East (Ind.). After claiming two out of three doubles matches, the Blue and Gold took a trio of victories in singles action to pick up a 4-0 win over the Red Wolves, advancing to the River States Conference Championship Match.
This is the Eagles first appearance in a conference championship match since the program restarted in the 2016-17 academic year.
With the win, the Eagles improved their record to 9-10 overall while IU East ends its season at 7-6.
In doubles action, the tandem of Isabella McKinney (Paducah, Ky.) and Ana Larreal (Maracay, Venezuela) earned a 6-4 win at the No. 2 slot. Midway then clinched the doubles point at the No. 3 position when the pairing of Grace Froedge (Louisville, Ky.) and Jasmine McClenahan (Weslaco, Texas) also won by a 6-4 score.
At No. 4 singles, McKinney cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory and McClenahan battled back from a set down to earn a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 5 slot. Midway then completed the shutout when Froedge earned an easy 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6.
Midway women's tennis will face off with No. 1 seed Oakland City (Ind.) in the championship match on Saturday, April 28. First serve is slated for 10 a.m. E.T.
