EVANSVILLE, Ind. – On Saturday afternoon, the Midway men's tennis team competed in its first River States Conference Championship Match as it faced off with No. 25 ranked Oakland City (Ind.). Unfortunately, despite a determined effort, the Eagles suffered a 4-0 loss to the Mighty Oaks.
With the loss, Midway ends its season with a record of 8-10. Oakland City improves to 21-6 and advances to the NAIA National Championship.
In doubles action, Oakland City jumped out to a quick lead with a 6-0 win at the No. 2 position. The Mighty Oaks then clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory at No. 3.
Oakland City then picked up victories at the No. 1, 5 and 6 singles to clinch the 4-0 victory. Lakshay Vivek (Haryana, India) was up 7-6, 3-4 at the No. 4 position when the match was suspended and Aditya Roy Chowdhury (Kolkata, India) was tied 1-6, 6-4 with his opponent at No. 2 singles.
