LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Midway women's tennis team returned to conference play on Wednesday when it hosted Brescia (Ky.) in a River States Conference dual at the Lexington Tennis Club. The Blue and Gold overpowered the Bearcats all afternoon long as they picked up a 7-0 victory.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 5-9 for the campaign and 2-0 in RSC play while Brescia falls to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Agustina Olivero (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Mara Guillen (Madrid, Spain) picked up a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, and the Blue and Gold clinched the point when Isabella McKinney (Paducah, Ky.) and Jasmin McClenahan (Weslaco, Texas) cruised to a 6-1 victory at the No. 2 slot.
In singles play, Olivero completed an undefeated day with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 1 position, while Guillen claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2. McKinney clinched the match for the Eagles with a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 3 slot.
At No. 4 singles, Grace Froedge (Louisville, Ky.) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win, while McClenahan picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5. The Eagles closed out the match with a default victory in the No. 6 position.
Midway women's tennis will remain in conference play this weekend when it hosts Oakland City (Ind.) on Saturday, April 8. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at the Falling Springs Tennis Center in Versailles.
