VERSAILLES, Ky. – The Midway men's tennis team took to the courts looking to improve to 2-0 in River States Conference play when it hosted Oakland City (Ind.). Unfortunately, the No. 25 ranked Mighty Oaks took all three matches in doubles play before claiming all six singles points in a 7-0 sweep.
With the loss, Midway falls to 5-8 for the year and 1-1 in RSC action while Oakland City improves to 17-6 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Paul Wamba (Dschang, Cameroon) and Aditya Roy Chowdhury (Kolkata, India) dropped a hard fought 6-4 decision and the Mighty Oaks clinched the doubles point when Lakshay Vivek (Haryana, India) and Julian Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) fell 6-3 at the No. 2 position.
In singles action, Lopez won his first set before falling 6-7, 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 2 slot while Wamba lost 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 at the No. 3 position. In other three-set singles matches, German Collado (Alcala de Henares, Spain) lost 7-5, 3-6, 13-11 at the No. 5 while Daniele Trentin (Venice, Italy) fell at the No. 6 position 4-6, 6-2, 10-4.
The Blue and Gold will step away from RSC competition on Tuesday, April 11 when it takes on Georgetown (Ky.) at the Lackey Tennis Center in Georgetown, Ky.
