Brooks, Kocis and Brown Qualify For NAIA Outdoor National Championships

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – It was announced this past weekend that the Midway track & field program had three student-athletes qualify for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships later this week.

The 71st Annual Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship and the 42nd Annual Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship will be held May 24-26 in Marion, Ind. on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan.

The pairing of Nevaeh Brown and Makayla Brooks are scheduled to represent the Blue and Gold in the women's pole vault while Jacob Kocis is slated to compete in the men's 10,000-meter race.

Brown, a junior hailing from Louisville, Ky., qualified with her 'A' standard in the second meet of the season. At the River States Conference Outdoor Championship, she vaulted 3.82 meters which places her in a tie for sixth in the NAIA rankings.

Brooks, a freshman out of Glasgow, Ky., earned her 'B' standard at the River States Conference Championship when she cleared 3.62 meters. She currently is ranked 15th in the nation.

Brown and Brooks will compete on Wednesday, May 24 starting at noon E.T.

Kocis, a senior from Island Pond, Vt., picked up a 'B' standard at the Gordon Bocock Cumberlands Invitational and Distance Festival when he crossed the finish line in 31:17.06. He is currently ranked 31st in the nation at the distance.

The 10,000-meter run is scheduled to start at 9:10 p.m. E.T. on Wednesday, May 24.

The top eight finishers in each respective event will earn All-American honors.
