MARION, Ind. - A nearly 30-hour delay and tough weather conditions were too much for
Maddi Reed to overcome, as the Midway freshman recorded a no-height finish in pole vault at the NAIA Women's Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on Thursday.
Originally slated to start at noon on Wednesday, the event was postponed due to rain and didn't commence until roughly 6 p.m. Thursday.
And though the sun was out at the time of competition, Reed still had to compete against a strong cross wind and temperatures in the low 50s, as she was unable to clear three tries at 3.50 meters.
Despite the disappointing end, the Shelbyville, Ky. native still had an excellent first college season, in which she qualified for both the
Indoor and Outdoor National Championships in pole vault. She was also the River States Conference
outdoor champion in pole vault and indoor champion in the 55-meter hurdles,
setting a new meet record in the later event.
Reed is one of three members of the Eagle women's team who qualified for the Outdoor National Championships.
Trinity Gottler took part
in the javelin Wednesday, while
Emerson VanScoy will compete in high jump at 2 p.m. Friday.
