ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Just over two months after earning All-American honors at the NAIA Indoor National Championships, the Midway pole vault duo of
Emerson VanScoy and
Maddi Reed added to their growing list of accolades Wednesday at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
Competing at Karl Straus Track in Asheville, North Carolina, VanScoy finished in fifth after clearing 3.83 meters, while Reed tied for eighth with a clearance of 3.78 meters.
For VanScoy, the honor marks the third All-American accolade of her career, while Reed earned the second All-American honor of her career.
VanScoy, a senior from Teays Valley, West Virginia, got off to an impressive start Wednesday by clearing 3.53 meters on her opening attempt before doing the same at 3.68 meters.
After passing at 3.78 meters, VanScoy recorded her first miss of the day at 3.83 meters before bouncing back to clear the height on her second attempt, setting a new outdoor personal record in the process.
VanScoy's day came to an end at 3.88 meters, but her mark of 3.83 meters secured a fifth-place finish and another All-American performance.
Reed, a sophomore from Shelbyville, Kentucky, also opened competition strongly, clearing 3.53 meters before facing a challenge at 3.68 meters.
After missing on her opening attempt at 3.68 meters, Reed responded with a successful clearance on her second try. She repeated that pattern at 3.78 meters, clearing the height on her second attempt after missing her first.
Reed's national championship run concluded at 3.83 meters, but her clearance of 3.78 meters earned her a tie for eighth place, another All-American honor, and a new outdoor personal record.
Coppola posts solid performance in national championship debut

Cate Coppola also represented the Eagles in the pole vault Wednesday, making her debut on the national stage.
The Greensburg, Kentucky, native posted a solid showing, clearing 3.53 meters to finish 15th overall.
