MARSHALL, Mo. - Kyler Adams' eighth-place finish at 141 pounds was the top individual showing for the Midway wrestling team, which finished 20th at the 45-team Missouri Valley College Invitational.
The Eagles had a team score of 49.5 at the two-day event, which concluded Saturday afternoon.
Adams opened his 5-3 weekend with a tech fall over Vincen Sandoval of Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Friday, which he followed with a 4-2 decision over Tugg Taylor of Dickenson State (N.D.)
He rebounded from a loss with three straight wins -- highlighted by sudden victory over Luke Jensen Corban (Ore.) and an 8-7 decisoin over Tony Mendoza of Grand View (Iowa) -- before dropping his final two matches.
Adams was one of six Eagles to finish the weekend with a winning record. The best performance of that group came from Daylon Stafford, who went 5-2 at 165.
Stafford's best matches were a 15-0 tech fall against Preston Gautier of Doane (Neb.) and a 10-0 major decision against Jackson Balmer of Briar Cliff (Iowa).
Elsewhere, Anthony Caruso (133), Kaleb Clark (149), Brent Hudgins (157) and Byron Pierce (285) all went 3-2.
The Eagles will now host a rare home event on Thursday, when they will host both Cumberlands (Ky.) and Rio Grande (Ohio), beginning at 4 p.m.
