MIDWAY. Ky. - Midway wrestling earned a split against a pair of Mid-South opponents in a triangular home meet Wednesday, topping Rio Grande (Ohio) 30-19 before falling 40-6 to top-10 ranked, in-state foe Cumberlands.
Prior to competition, the Eagles held a senior day celebration, honoring Byron Pierce, Daylon Stafford, Andrew Vogeler, Anthony Caruso and Brent Hudgins before their final home matches at Midway.

After losing the opening match, the Eagles took control for good over the next two, as Tyrique Simms and Nolan Jones earned pinfalls at 133 and 141 pounds respectively. Simms needed just 37 seconds to pin Colin Greenwood with Jones taking down Phil Balis in 2:16.
Midway's three other wins -- earned by Hudgins at 157, Sebastian Hutchinson at 174 and Ernst Lavaud Jr. at 184 -- all came via forfeit.

Though the Eagles got just one win against the highly ranked Patriots, it came in thrilling fashion via David Emfinger.
Down 11-2 late in the first period, Emfinger looked to be on the brink of a tech fall loss, only to recover and take an off-balance Jovon Howe to the ground. Seconds later, he was able to pin his shoulders to the mat to earn the victory at 197 pounds.
The Eagles are off until Feb. 2, when both they and Lindsey Wilson travel to Campbellsville for triangular meet.
