OWENSBORO, Ky. - The spring portion of the season got off to a perfect start for the Midway women's tennis team, which didn't lose a set in a 7-0 win over NCAA Division-II Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday.
Mara Guillen dropped just one total set in doubles and singles. She and Agustina Olivero defeated Jade Jenkins and Sydney Tucker 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, before she topped Jenkins 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
At No. 2 doubles, Angelia Herrera and Grace Froedge triumphed over Ella Brown and Angelo Ho 6-2. Each defeated one of their doubles opponents in singles play as well, Froedge beating Brown 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, Herrera topping Ho 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4.
Elsewhere, Nana Hishida beat Sydney Tucker 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Haley Thompson knocked off Aslyn Payton 7-5, 7-6 at No. 5. Both No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles were won by forfeit.
The Eagles are back at it next Saturday, taking on Cedarville in their home opener at 1 p.m.
