BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Midway's fifth-seeded men's bowling team was eliminated from the Mid-South Championship on Friday, going 0-2 in the double-elimination tournament.
Opening against fourth-seeded Cumberland (Tenn.) the Eagles fell in an early 0-2 hole in the best-of-seven match before earning a 204-190 win in game three. After dropping the fourth game 224-150, Midway staved off elimination with a 201-170 game-five win, but the Phoenix handled business, advancing in six with a 203-150 triumph.
In the elimination round, Midway drew top-seeded Pikeville, which had suffered a 4-2 upset by No. 9 Lindsey Wilson earlier in the day. In what proved to be a back-and-forth affair, the Eagles won the opening round 231-211, then took a 2-1 lead after a 213-161 victory in game three.
The Bears responded with two straight wins, but Midway forced a do-or-die game seven after a decisive 190-160 victory in game six. Unfortunately, the upset bid ended there, as Pikeville advanced by taking the final contest 184-167.
Midway's postseason has not wrapped entirely, as the Eagles will travel to Texas for the Fort Worth Sectional portion of the Intercollegiate Team Championships, which will be held March 9-10.
