PARK CITY, Kan. - The Midway wrestling season came to an end on Thursday, as national qualifiers Kyler Adams and Kaleb Clark went 0-2 in their weight classes at the NAIA Men's Wrestling Championships.
Competing at 141 pounds, Adams, a three-time national qualifier, got within 3-2 with an escape at the 1:19 mark of the third period, but 16th-seeded Thomas Williams of St. Thomas (Fla.) countered with a two-point reversal at 1:41 and a three-point takedown with 33 seconds remaining, winning the opening-round bout 8-3.
Facing Reinhardt's (Ga.) Domenico DiGena in the consolation round, Adams countered an early DiGena takedown with one of his own, and paired with an early escape, he held a 4-3 lead at the end of the first period.
Digena made an early escape to tie the match 4-4 early in the second period, where it would stay until there were just six seconds remaining, when DiGena executed another takedown to steal a 7-4 win in the final seconds.
Qualifying at 149 pounds, Clark, in his national-tournament debut, opened the day with a 7-4 loss to Nick Moore of Campbellsville (Ky.), suffering three-point takedowns in the first and second periods.
Clark then sustained a 9-4 consolation defeat to Jalen Vladic of Providence (Mont.).
Midway concludes the 2023-24 season having sent at least one wrestler to nationals in each of its six years as a program. The Eagles have sent multiple competitors to the tournament in each of the last four seasons.
