WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - A set win at No. 3 singles was the best Midway could muster on Sunday, as No. 14 Cumberlands swept the Eagles 7-0 in men's tennis.
The match was originally slated to be played at Midway on Saturday. But after being rained out, it was re-located to UC to better accommodate Midway's upcoming travel schedule.
Axel Sperling had the top showing for the Eagles, overcoming a 6-2 loss to Hung Ju Wu in the opening set by winning the second 6-1. But Wu rebounded with a 6-0 win in set three to secure the No. 3 singles victory.
Sunday marked the first of three straight days of road competition for the Eagles, who are head to Milligan (Tenn.) for a 1 p.m. match Monday.
