Aditya Roy Chowdhury named RSC Player of the Week

MIDWAY, Ky. - An unbeaten week earned Midway junior Aditya Roy Chowdhury River States Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday.

This comes after the junior from Kolkata, India was 2-0 in both doubles and singles during a pair of matches against Asburry and Indiana East.

His thrilling, three-set win at No. 3 singles -- which was accompanied by a 6-4 win with Izan Casado at No. 1 doubles -- played a big role in Midway earning a come-from-behind, 4-3 win over an Asbury team that entered on a nine-match win streak.

Things came much easier in a Friday matchup against IU East. Playing at the No. 3 spot in both singles and doubles, Chowdhury dropped just one total game in a 7-0 Eagle win. The victory helped Midway improve to 2-0 against River States Conference opponents.

It's the first weekly award of Chowdhury's college career, and the first won by a Midway player since Lakshay Vivek captured the RSC Player of the Week award on April 3 of last year.

Midway was supposed to continue RSC play at Shawnee State (Ohio) on Tuesday, but the match was postponed due to weather concerns. Next on the Eagle schedule is an in-state conference road match against Brescia at 3 p.m. Saturday.
