Georgetown edges Midway 4-3 on men's tennis senior day

MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway rallied after falling in an early hole, but was unable to complete its comeback in a 4-3 men's tennis loss to Georgetown on Monday.

Prior to the match, a senior day celebration was held for Owen McCarter, who was playing his final home match as an Eagle.

The Tigers jumped out to a comfortable lead early, sweeping doubles play while also winning at Nos. 1 and 2 singles.

But Midway made things interesting with wins at the third, fourth and fifth spots. Daniele Trentin and Izan Casado both earned straight-set wins at Nos. 3 and 5, Trentin beating Leo Schrimer 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3, Casado topping Stephen Taylor 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5.

German Collado overcame a 6-4 loss in the opening set against Alex Stragier at No. 4, coasting for a 6-1 win in the second before taking the third 10-5.

That left the score knotted at 3-3 with only the No. 6 match remaining. Unfortunately for the Eagles, Chase Hechemy was able to get the best of McCarter, 6-0, 6-4.

The Eagles will conclude the regular season with a critical match at Shawnee State (Ohio) on Tuesday. Both teams enter at 3-1 in River States Conference play, and the winner will secure the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the RSC Tournament, which begins on April 26.
