MIDWAY, Ky. - Eight members of the Midway men's tennis team were honored by the River States Conference on Monday, with Axel Sperling capturing two of the league's highest honors.
Sperling was one of six players named First Team All-Conference by the RSC, following a season in which he accumulated 11 total wins between singles and doubles. Sperling had at least one win at each of the top three singles and top two doubles positions for an Eagles team that reached the RSC Championship finals for the second year in a row.
The junior from Stockholm was also selected as Midway's representative on the River States Champions of Character team.
Earning a spot on the Third Team was junior German Collado, who had wins at the first, second and fourth singles positions during the season.
Collado played a key role in getting Midway to the conference finals, winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles in quarterfinal win over Indiana East and 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 in a semifinal victory against Shawnee State.
He was also one of seven Eagles to be named an River States Scholar Athlete, joined by Aditya Roy Chowdhury, Daniele Trentin, Izan Casado, Jordan Patterson, Lakshay Vivek and Owen McCarter.
