OWENSBORO, Ky. - A day before facing its biggest challenge of the conference slate, the Midway men's tennis team stayed perfect in River States play with a resounding 7-0 road win against Brescia Friday afternoon.
The Eagles got straight-set wins at Nos. 1, 3, 5 and 6 singles, with Daniele Trentin (6-0, 6-0 over Chacon Munoz) and Izan Casado (6-1, 6-0 over Jay Felix) dropping just one combined game at the third and sixth spots.
Axel Sperling and reining River States Player of the Week Aditya Roy Chowdhury had a pretty easy go as well. Sperling defeated Matthew Parsons 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles while Chowdhury topped Parker Johnson 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5.
Daniel Pinzon and German Collado had a more challenging afternoon, but each was able to pull out a three-set win.
Pinzon overcame a 6-4 loss in the opening set by winning the next two 6-4, 10-2 against Braedon Christie at No. 2 singles. In arguably the most exciting match of the day, Collado and Diego Laguna went deep into the third set before Collado pulled out a 12-10 win.
