MILL SPRING, N.C. - Midway had four top-five finishes on the first day of Intercollegiate Horse Show National Championship Friday, with Alana Utlak coming away with a win.
Utlak, a freshman from Greenville, Pa., had a spectacular showing in her national tournament debut, winning a championship in Team Level-Two Horsemanship.
This marks the second year in a row the Eagles have had a national champion, with Utlak following the Ranch Riding national title won by Jordan Schauer in 2023.
The Eagles nearly had a second first-place finish on day one, with Kaylee Klein being named reserve national champion in Team Level-One Horsemanship.
Following her title win a year ago, Schauer finished fourth in Individual Open Horsemanship and fifth in Team Open Reining.
Midway and the rest of the field will be back at it on Saturday, with day two of the three-day event set to being at 9 a.m.
