WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - In a tournament featuring five ranked opponents, the Midway women's golf team placed sixth at the two-day, three-round Rohrman Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday.
The Eagles finished 130 strokes above-par, recording a score of 994. Seventh-ranked Marian (Ind.) had a final score of 935 (+71), 16 strokes better than No. 9 Dalton State (Ga.).
Midway had its best score in Tuesday's final round, carding a 322 (+34). That was a marked improvement from the opening two rounds Monday, in which the Eagles shot a 331 and 341 respectively.
As she did during the Eagles' record-breaking season opener, Maryssa Phillips led the way, finished in a tie for sixth with a +20, 236 for the tournament.
Phillips opened and closed the invite at her strongest, shooting a four-over 76 in both the first and third rounds. She had the third-best score of the first round and the fourth-best of the third.
Freshman Kasey Cameron had another great showing in her second college tournament, tying for 11th with a 241 (+25). Elsewhere, Bree Smith was 30th with a score of 255 (+39) and Savannah Salchli was 33rd at 262 (+46).
All three players had their best scores in Tuesday's final round.
Competing as an individual, Sophie Lester was 35th (269, +53), with Anna New placing 36th (274, +58).
The Eagles have just four days off before traveling to London, Ky. for the University of the Cumberlands Invitational, which will be played on Saturday and Sunday.
