INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Midway men's bowling team recorded the best finish its ever had at the Columbia 300 Western Shootout over the weekend, finishing sixth out of 29 teams with a final score of 9,344.
The Eagles scored a 6,154 in team play and 3,190 in Baker. In three previous trips to the Western Shootout, Midway's best finish was 10th in 2023.
A balanced lineup was led by
Vincent Biehn, who placed sixth with a six-game score of 1,355 and an average of 225.8.
Biehn came out on fire with an opening-game of 254, which he immediately followed up with a 237 and 243 in games two and three.Â
Another top-15 finish came from
Charlie Smith, who placed 12th with a total score of 1,315 and a six-game average of 219.2.
Smith opened with a 229 and 228 in the first two games before coming alive with a 268 in the third. Not only was this the third-best score of the third game, it was tied for the 12th-best single-game performance by any of the over 300 individual competitors in the field.
He was joined in the top-30 by
Logan Tincher, who came in 30th with a 1,269 (211.5 average).
The Eagles also got a top-40 finisher from the junior varsity ranks, with
Anton Leonard placing 38th with a 1,256 (209.3). Leonard finished12th amongst all JV bowlers.
Midway got another top-100 effort from a JV bowler in
Maddox Worthington, who tied for 68th with a score of 1,189, just missing a 200 average with 198.2.
In Baker, Midway topped 250 pins twice, getting a 259 in the fifth game and a 252 in the 15th.
The Eagles will open the Mid-South Conference portion of their season in two weeks, competing in the Greater Nashville Open Oct. 25 and the Brandon Burns Invitational the 26th. Both matches will be held in Smyrna, Tenn.
