WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The Midway men's and women's tennis teams concluded the fall portion of their seasons with a series of matches at the University of the Cumberlands Invitational on Saturday.
The Eagles took part in singles and doubles matches against both the host Patriots and Lindsey Wilson.
MEN
Midway got three wins in nine singles matches against LWC, all in straight sets.
Shimpei Yazuka defeated Ian Arressee 6-4, 6-4,
Izan Casado topped Pritt Patel 6-1, 6-2 and Manuel Mirabel beat Logan Engela 6-3, 6-4.
Mirabel also got a win in doubles against Cumberlands, as he and Keshave Rathi topped Stefan Vizitiu and Bohdan Dovbush 6-0.Â
Tyler Goldfine and
Carson Odam also got a doubles win over the Patriots by a 6-4 final against Eduardo Lezama and Adriana Uriz. Midway went 1-5 in singles against UC, with Ferran Clapes topping Thibaud Vivier 8-3
WOMEN
The Eagles had their best showing in singles against Lindsey Wilson, winning three of four matches in straight sets.
Wins went to
Tanit Cevada Cruz (6-1, 6-1 over Piper Samples),
Haley Thompson (6-2, 6-2 over Patience Anderson) and
Caitlin Wright (6-1, 6-1 over Caylin Coffman)
Things went even better in doubles, as the Eagles went 2-0 against Lindsey Wilson. Cevada Cruz and
Alicia Sanglas topped Antonia Budroda and Anderson 6-4, with Thompson and Wright taking down Coffman and Samples 6-2.
Things didn't go as well against Cumberlands, with the Eagles going 0-4 in singles and 0-2 in doubles.
The best showing against the Patriots came from Sanglas, who dropped her singles match to Rion Yanuma 8-6
