MARSHALL, Mo. - Highlighted by a 3-0 performance Friday, Midway's
Trinity Gottler went 3-2 overall at the Missouri Valley Women's Wrestling Open, which concluded Saturday.
Wrestling in the 160-pound weight class, Gottler earned a pair of tech falls during her win streak, defeating Gemma Deyo of Campbellsville 10-0 and Josephine Ives of William Penn (Iowa) 13-2. She also got a 9-5 decision over Kiley Dillow, who wrestled unattached.
Things got a lot tougher on Saturday, as she lost 10-0 in a semifinal match against Mercy Adekuoroye of Wayland Baptist (Texas), the No. 3 wrestler in the weight class.
Gottler's run then ended in the consolation bracket, when she lost 10-0 Aniya Roberts of Southeast Community College (Neb.).
The only other Eagle to wrestle over the weekend was
Zyler McMillian, who went 0-2 at 103 pounds on Friday.
Midway is off until Dec. 12, when it travels to Emory, Va. for the Emory and Henry Open.
