Getty makes regionals as western team earns high-point score at Morehead

MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Midway western team closed the fall in great fashion over the weekend, earning a high-point finish on the opening day of the Morehead State Shows.

The highlight of that high-point showing came from Sofia Getty, who not only took first at level-one horsemanship, but also qualified for IHSA Regionals with her performance.

Regional competition will also be held in Morehead on Feb. 28.

Getty was one of three Eagles to finished first in her division Saturday. Other winners were Kaylee Klein in level-two horsemanship and Amelia Lee in open reining.

Second-place finishers on Saturday were Tate Gill in open horsemanship, Zaida Wondrash in beginner horsemanship (section B) and Emily Steinberg in beginner horsemanship (section C).

Midway also placed fourth in team competition on Sunday, while getting rookie horsemanship wins from Emily Sue Watts and Elizabeth Ulbricht.

Watts won the A horsemanship title with Ulbricht winning at B.

In beginner horsemanship, Emily Steinberg took second.

Midway is now off until Feb. 7-8, when it travels to Oxford, Ohio for the Miami University Shows.
