Eagles unable to overcome miscues in 3-1 loss to Kentucky Christian

MIDWAY, Ky. -- The Midway women's volleyball team wrapped up a five match homestand on Friday night when they hosted Kentucky Christian in Marshall Gymnasium for their final home match of the 2025 season.

After dropping a tight first set, the Eagles leveled the match at a set apiece after winning the second stanza. Unfortunately for the home team, the Knights won sets three and four to clinch the 3-1 victory (27-25, 12-25, 25-23, 25-17).

Following a tight first set that the Eagles (1-23, 0-14 RSC) dropped after holding a 19-17 lead, they came out firing in the second set where they took advantage of multiple miscues from the Knights.

Midway only had four kills in the set, but they capitalized on 10 attacking errors and eight reception errors by the Knights. Alyssa Medeiros served back-to-back aces and forced KCU to call a timeout trailing 11-4.

Medeiros later put down back-to-back kills to spark an 8-0 run that was capped by back-to-back aces from Lindsey Whitehouse.

The two kills were part of a terrific night from Medeiros, who also had a terrific match earlier this week against Spalding (Ky.). The sophomore finished with 19 kills for the second consecutive match, while she also added 10 digs and a .310 hitting percentage.

Midway looked poised to take a 2-1 lead after they held a 23-21 lead late in the third frame, but the Knights (11-19, 3-12 RSC) closed on a 4-0 run to win the set and eventually win the match after winning the fourth set handily.

Ava Benner joined Medeiros with double-digit kills, finishing with 10 kills. Makenna Depue dished out 20 assists, while Whitehouse chipped in eight assists, six services aces, and five digs in her first match since Oct. 25.

The Eagles are set to return to action tomorrow when they wrap up the 2025 season with a road trip to Shawnee State (Ohio).
