MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- The Midway women's wrestling team made its debut on Saturday (Nov. 8) in Mount Olive, N.C. at the Trojan Women's Open hosted by NCAA Division II Mount Olive (N.C.).
Overall, the Eagles had five grapplers that competed with three of the five picking up at least one victory.
Leading the way for the Blue and Gold was
Trinity Gottler in the 160-weight class, who had a nice bounce back after dropping her first match. In her first match, Gottler suffered an 8-0 defeat to Cumberlands (Ky.) Micah Fisher-Miller who is currently ranked No. 2 in the NAIA at 160.
Gottler then rattled off three straight victories – two coming via a pin fall and another coming via a tech fall. Those wins setup a rematch with Fisher-Miller, who ended Gottler's run just short of advancing to the third-place match.
Picking up one victory apiece for the Eagles was the duo of Lan Reeves in the 110-weight class and Bussard in the 145-weight class.
Midway is set to return to action on Monday (Nov. 10) when they travel to Rio Grande (Ohio) to compete in their first-ever dual against the RedStorm and Bethany (W.Va.).
