MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway continued to ride an excellent, well-balanced offense to another women's basketball win Tuesday, as the Eagles earned a 107-90 victory over visiting Alice Lloyd.
The offense was virtually unstoppable through two quarters, with the Eagles shooting 60 percent from the field while building up a 63-35 lead at the half. This early advantage proved helpful, as the opposing Eagles shot 54 percent and scored 55 points in the second half.
The catalyst for the early success was
Alexys Moore, who scored 13 of her team-high 17 points in a first quarter where she shot 5-of-6 from the field.
As as been the case all year, the offense was set up by a swarming, press defense, which forced 17 turnovers in the first half, which resulted in 22 points.
Midway forced 29 turnovers Tuesday and has now forced 23 or more in all 10 of its game during a 7-3 start.
The Eagles also continued a positive trend of having double-digit players score, with 16 netting at least two points against ALC. That marked the eighth time 10 or more Eagles players scored in a game this season.
Tuesday was also the sixth time Midway scored at least 90 points, but was the first time cracking the century mark
since a 134-point performance in their season opener.
A'Lyrica Hughes and
Jacie Chesser had an excellent, all-around performance. Hughes had 12 points, six rebounds and six assists, while Chesser had 11 points and six steals.
Paige Medley added 10 points in just eight minutes off the bench while
Trinity Johnson pulled down a team-best seven rebounds.
The Eagles have another favorable matchup on Saturday when they host Cincinnati-Clermont at 1 p.m.
