MIDWAY, Ky. - The Midway women's basketball team continued its dominance at Marshall Gymnasium Saturday, taking control from the start in a 99-59 rout of Cincinnati-Clermont Saturday.
In five home games this season, the Eagles are 5-0 and winning by an average margin of 43 points. They also continued the trends of turnovers and balanced offense to overwhelm the Cougars.
The Eagles took the ball away 27 times on Saturday, which led to 33 points.
And just two games after taking 97 field goal attempts,
the most by an Eagle team in over 20 years at the time, the Eagles eclipsed that total with 106 field-goal tries Saturday, a total aided by the turnovers and 29 offensive rebounds.
All told, 16 of 18 Eagles who saw action scored, with freshman
Alexis Taylor leading the way with 15 points off the bench. Fellow reserve
Morgan Cross added 10 points as Midway's second unit outscored Clermont's 61-10.
As for the starters,
A'Lyrica Hughes fell just shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds, while she and
Jermyra Christian both had five steals.
Christian, Cross and
Maddie Nipper all had five assists for Midway, which had a season-high 26 as a team.
Jacie Chesser chipped in 11 points and three blocks for the 8-3 Eagles, who will conclude non-conference play at the Governors State University Winter Classic in University Park, Ill.
The Eagles begin the invitational against Governors State at 5 p.m. on Dec. 29.
