HUNTINGTON, W.V. - Maddi Reed's second season at Midway began the same as her first, as she clinched a return to the NAIA Indor Track and Field National Championships.
The pole vault standout not only hit the qualifying 'B' standard but also got a win against NCAA Division-I competition at the Marshall Opener on Saturday, topping out at a height of 3.60 meters.
Pole vault was the only event the Eagles took part in with
Emerson VanScoy, Kate Coppola and
Makayla Brooks also competing. VanScoy and Coppola tied for fourth at 3.35 meters with Brooks placing seventh at 3.05.
Reed finished in a tie for the top spot with Olivia Wingo of Northern Kentucky, but ultimately earned the win in a jump off. Her top height eclipsed the 'B' standard of 3.55.
It was an almost identical start to last indoor season, when Reed
also hit a top mark of 3.60 at the Marshall Opener. The only difference was in the 2024 meet, she finished second to then-teammate
Nevaeh Brown.
The pole vaulters will be joined by the rest of the team on Jan. 16, when Midway travels to Louisville for the Bellarmine Open.
