VanScoy wins high jump to highlight day one of RSC Indoor T&F Championships

MARIETTA, Ohio - Emerson VanScoy successfully defended her high jump championship and got a pair of top-two finishes to highlight Midway's first day at the River States Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday.

The Eagles are in fifth place in the 10-team field at the halfway point of competition with 27 points. Indiana Kokomo is in first with 61 points, 10 more than current runner-up Shawnee State.

VanScoy, already a national 'A' qualifier in high jump, got a good battle from Makaela Lovely of Shawnee State on Friday, but came away victorious at 1.65 meters.

After each cleared 1.60, both VanScoy and Lovely missed their first two tries at 1.65. But after Lovely was unsuccessful on her third try as well, VanScoy cleared her final attempt.

This marks the third-consecutive high jump conference title won by VanScoy, who was both indoor and outdoor champion in the event in 2025.

After also winning long jump at the RSC Outdoor Championships last spring, VanScoy was second in the event Friday. Her 5.33-meter top jump was just .02 less than the winning mark hit by Emily Martig of Oakland City.

Midway's other points came in relays.

In the 4x800-meter relay, Stevie McSorley, Emma Lesher, Macy Adams and Ariah Egleston were fourth in 10:49.66. In the distance medley, McSorley, Lesher, Egleston and Abby Baldridge were fifth in 14:15.57.

Day two of competition begins at 9 a.m. Saturday. One of the day's first events is pole vault, where the Eagles currently rank No. 1 in the country.
