MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway was unable to build on a second-set win, as Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) earned its second 3-1 victory over the Eagles in the last 19 days, winning 25-20, 22-25, 25-21, 25-18 in Midway's home opener Wednesday.
The Eagles never led the opening set then fell behind 13-10 in the second before rallying to score seven of the next eight points, taking a 17-14 lead on a
Jai'Den Chinnis block.
The Lions stormed back to tie it at 17 only for Midway to go on another run, this time 5-1. The Eagles went ahead 22-18 on a
Lincoln Anderson service ace and held on to even the match at one.
Anderson led all players with four aces.
The momentum would be short-lived, though, as Mount Saint Joseph recorded a very good .390 hitting percentage over the final two sets and out-hit Midway .302 to .122 for the night.
Chinnis led Midway with 10 kills.
Jordan Daily (18) and
Noah Fichter (11) with both recorded double-digit assists while
Braden Cacek tied for the match lead with 13 digs for the 0-2 Eagles,
who have suffered both of their losses at the hands of the Lions.
Midway is back home Monday to face Milligan (Tenn.) at 5 p.m. This match was originally slated to be played Tuesday,
but was delayed due by bad weather.
