MIDWAY, Ky. - Led by reserve high point rider
Reese Dorsey, Midway hunt seat was the high point team on day one of the Midway University Shows Saturday.
After starting early round competition, Sunday's second day was postponed out of fears that bad weather would create hazardous travel conditions. Eagle coach
Heath Gunnison said he'd attempt to schedule a makeup date, but was unsure if or when it would happen.
Prior to the postponement, Midway held a senior day celebration for departing riders
Jessica Covey,
Kayden Gundry,
Kelly Lewis,
Halley Moak,
Elisma Stoltz,
Sydney Wright,
Abbie Wright and
Marinna Liedle, with several members of that group having significant contributions to Saturday's win.
Abbie Wright took first in open flat, with Gundry (open fences) Liedle (introductory), Covey (intermediate flat) and
Sydney Wright (limit flat) all earning second-place finishes. Gundry and Moak also placed fifth and sixth respectively in open flat
Dorsey's reserve high point finish included a tie for first in intermediate flat with teammate
Riley Whelan and a second-place showing in intermediate fences.
Other Eagle winners were
Ella Hutcherson in novice and Emily Watts in introductory. In limit flat,
Bronwyn Wright tied
Sydney Wright for second while
Alexis Williams placed third.
Midway has one more show before the postseason. It will travel to Oxford, Ohio for another round of Miami University Shows on March 8-9.
The Eagles
were reserve high point team in the opening round of competition in a previous show at Miami in October.
