RICHMOND, Ind. - Midway's first ever River States Conference match in men's volleyball ended in defeat Friday, with Indiana East sweeping the Eagles 25-16, 25-18, 26-24.
After having one of its best hitting performances in years
in a sweep of Milligan (Tenn.) on Monday, the Eagles struggled at the net Friday, hitting just .050 in the first set before hitting a negative percentage in the second and third.
Despite that, Midway was still in good position to extend the match, forcing set point when a
Braden Cacek kill gave the Eagles a 24-22 lead in set three.
But the Red Wolves responded by scoring the next four points. Arthur Barreto had two kills off of assists from Britain Givens, who also had a kill in the rally that ended on a Judah Davis ace.
Cacek had a team-high five kills,
Jordan Daily had eight assists and
Lincoln Anderson 10 digs for 1-3 Midway, which returns to conference action at home against Cumberland (Tenn.) at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
