WALESKA, Ga. - Midway made considerable improvements after a tough first round, as the Eagles began the women's golf season with a third-place finish at the Eagle Open, hosted by Reinhardt on Monday and Tuesday.
Midway had a three-round, 122-over par score of 974. SCAD Atlanta, the No. 7 team in the country won with an 883 (+31), while Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) was second at 945 (+93).
After shooting a 337 (+53) in round one, the Eagles cut 20 strokes off their score in the second before closing out with a 320 (+36) in Tuesday's final round.
Leading the individual charge for Midway was
Savannah Salchli, who cracked the top-10 with a 28-over par tally of 241.
Sallchi put together a great stretch on holes 13-17 in round two, recording birdies on 13 (par-three), 16 (par-four) and 17 (par-four).
Reigning River States Conference Golfer of the Year
Kasey Cameron landed just outside the top-10 in 11th with a plus-30 score of 243. Cameron shot an 80 (+8) in each of the first two rounds before carding an 83 Tuesday.
Tying for 16th with a 247 (+34),
Anna Simpson had the best individual round of any Midway player in the entire tournament with her three-over par 74 on Tuesday, a score topped by only three other players in the field.
After an early double bogey, Simpson rebounded with birdies on the par-four ninth hole and the par-five 12th.
Playing as an individual,
Kelsay Collins was 18th with a 249 (+36).
Anna New tied for 19th with a 253 (+40), one shot ahead of
Kyrie Dickenson, who finished 21st.
The defending River States Conference champion Eagles return to action Sept. 8-9 for the Pretty Lake Invitational in Plymouth, Ind.
