MIDWAY, Ky. - A new-look Midway women's soccer team was picked to finish eighth in the River States Conference this season, the RSC announced Thursday.
In a poll of league coaches, the Eagles got 37 vote points, sandwiched between No. 7 Brescia (48 points) and No. 9 Saint Mary of the Woods (35).
Fresh off an undefeated run through conference play, Oakland City secured 10 of 11 first-place votes (coaches can't vote for their own teams to finish first) and 100 points to take the top spot with ease.
The other first-place vote went to Rio Grande, which was in second with 87 points. Indiana East (74), West Virginia Tech (70) and Shawnee State (65) rounded out the top-five.
New Midway coach Warren Lipka will open his regular season tenure on Aug. 26
in an in-state road matchup at Berea.
