GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Midway men's tennis team had its first taste of live action for the 2025-26 season on Sunday, facing off against both Thomas More and Georgetown at the Georgetown Invitational.
VS. GEORGETOWN
The Eagles went 1-1 in doubles competition, with the win coming via a 6-1 victory by
Manuel Mirabal and
Shimpei Yazuka over Leo Schirmer and Dallas Baker.
In the only singles match, Mirabal and Schirmer had a great back-and-forth that Scirmer eventually won by the final of 8-6
VS. THOMAS MORE
Midway earned a split in four doubles matches, with Mirabal getting another win. This time, he teamed with
Daniel Pinzon for a 6-3 victory against Reggi Bechtel and Samuel Mimbrero Lendinez.
The other doubles win came from
Izan Casado and
Ferran Clapes, who defeated Bechtel and Magnus Hauska 6-4.
Pinzon got Midway's lone win in four singles matches, defeating Clayton Arnett 8-3.
The Eagles will be back in Georgetown on Sept. 25 for the four-day ITA Southeast Regionals
