MIDWAY, Ky. - After dominating all afternoon, the Midway offense was finally able to break through a pesky Cincinnati Clermont defense in the second half, ending a three-game losing streak with a 2-0 win on the Midway Turf Field Saturday.
Statistically, the game was a rout, as the Eagles held a 26-2 shot advantage for the game and a 15-0 edge in the second half. But UCC keeper Cavan Aldridge and his defense were able to make enough plays to keep the Eagles scoreless for more than 54 minutes.
But the drought finally ended on a 55th-minute corner kick.
Rhys Dickson made a great entry pass that was deflected by
Tomas Sarmiento right to
Ben Banton, who found an opening to break a scoreless tie.
The play capped a great week for Banton,
who also had a goal and an assist against Campbellsville on Tuesday.
Dickson then added an unassisted goal of his own 5:20 later, which was more than enough breathing room for the Eagle defense.
The win moves Midway to 2-3-1 on the season and provided a momentum boost heading into River States Conference play, which begins at home against Saint Mary of the woods on Thursday.
