Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Eagle women continue home dominance, win seventh straight overall

MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway continued to look seemingly indestructible on its home court, as the Eagles forced 32 turnovers and won their seventh-consecutive River States Conference game, defeating Indiana Southeast 82-68 in women's basketball on Saturday.

The Grenadiers scored the first basket of the day but would never lead again, as the Eagles answered with eight-consecutive points.

The Eagles have trailed in just three of their nine home games this season. In that time, they've been behind for a total of 2 minutes, 24 seconds, have never faced a deficit of more than two points and have won every game at Marshall Gymnasium by at least 17.

A Midway team that was seventh in the NAIA in takeaways entering the day was at it again Saturday, setting the tone by forcing 13 turnovers in the first quarter. A'Lyrica Hughes and Trinity Johnson had five steals apiece for the Eagles, who scored 37 points off turnovers.

Hughes (15 points) and Johnson (10) were also among the four Midway players to score in double figures.

Leading the way offensively was Jacie Chesser, who had 17 points and also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Alexys Moore added 10 points and four steals while her and Hughes each had three assists.

Now 16-5 overall, the Eagles are 7-2 in RSC play, putting them a half-game behind Shawnee State, which lost 91-79 to Indiana Southeast last Saturday, for second place in the East Division.

The Eagles will look to continue their home dominance on Tuesday against visiting Indiana East at 6 p.m.

The current win streak began with an 83-75 win over the Red Wolves on the road on Jan. 6.
