Carter, Cockrell Earn MSFL Player of the Week Honors

MIDWAY, Ky. — Following a record-breaking performance against Bellarmine University, two members of the Midway University sprint football team have earned Midwest Sprint Football League (MSFL) Player of the Week honors.

Quarterback Christian Carter was named the MSFL Offensive Player of the Week, while kicker Hayden Cockrell earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors after helping the Eagles defeat Bellarmine 81-27 on Saturday afternoon in Louisville, Ky.

The victory improved Midway's record to 4-0 and marked the highest-scoring game in program and MSFL history.

CHRISTIAN CARTER — OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Carter delivered a record-breaking performance against the Knights, throwing for 436 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Eagles' offense.

The reigning MSFL National Offensive Player of the Year completed 26 passes, averaging 16.8 yards per completion. He also contributed 28 rushing yards on nine carries.

Carter's 436 passing yards broke his own program single-game record of 332 yards, which he set against Quincy University on Sept. 27, 2025.

The quarterback helped Midway score 81 points, breaking the previous MSFL and program single-game scoring record of 78, which the Eagles established against Oakland City on Oct. 25, 2025.

Midway also broke its previous MSFL single-game total offense record of 625 yards, which was set in the same contest against Oakland City.

Carter's performance helped the Eagles remain undefeated through their first four games of the 2026 season.

HAYDEN COCKRELL — SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Cockrell continued his strong season for the Eagles, delivering another consistent performance in the kicking game against Bellarmine.

The kicker converted a 39-yard field goal in the first quarter to give Midway a 10-3 advantage.

Cockrell also went a perfect 8-for-8 on extra-point attempts, finishing with 11 points in the Eagles' victory.

His 39-yard field goal was his longest successful attempt of the season.

The honor adds to an impressive season for Cockrell, who has previously earned multiple MSFL Special Teams Player of the Week selections.
