MIDWAY, Ky. — After helping Midway sprint football improve to 3-0 on the season, Keegan Hill and Hayden Cockrell have earned weekly honors from the Midwest Sprint Football League.
Hill was named the MSFL Defensive Player of the Week, while Cockrell earned Co-Special Teams Player of the Week honors. The award marks Cockrell's third consecutive Special Teams Player of the Week honor to begin the season.
Hill turned in a dominant defensive performance in Midway's 65-12 road victory over Quincy on Sunday afternoon, intercepting four passes and returning two for touchdowns.
The Newport, Kentucky, native made his presence felt early, opening the scoring with a 30-yard pick-six in the first quarter to give the Eagles an early advantage.
Hill continued to wreak havoc on the Quincy passing attack throughout the contest. He intercepted a pass in the end zone to halt a Quincy scoring opportunity before adding a 9-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
The senior defensive back capped his performance by recording his fourth interception on the final play of the game.
Hill finished the contest with four interceptions, 40 interception-return yards, four pass breakups and three tackles. His performance helped the Midway defense force seven interceptions while holding Quincy to 178 passing yards and no passing touchdowns.
Cockrell, meanwhile, continued his impressive start to the season on special teams.
The Winchester, Kentucky, native accounted for nine points, converting all six of his extra-point attempts while connecting on a 26-yard field goal.
Cockrell's field goal came with six seconds remaining in the first half, sending the Eagles into the locker room with a 31-6 advantage.
The sophomore also handled Midway's punting duties, averaging 40.5 yards on two punts with a long of 45 yards.
The weekly honor is Cockrell's third in as many weeks. He earned Special Teams Player of the Week following Midway's season-opening 38-24 victory at Calumet before earning the honor again following the Eagles' 55-14 victory over Bellarmine.
Midway enters its bye week with a perfect 3-0 record before returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 10.
