MIDWAY, Ky. -- Coming off a record-breaking performance, Midway will look to ride that momentum into a matchup against Calumet College at Midway Turf Field on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Last week, the Midway (4-0) offense put up a single-game program-high 81 points in their road victory against Bellarmine. Christian Carter was at the helm, throwing for a season-high and program-record 436 passing yards on 26 completions (16.8 avg.). Carter also tossed a season-high five touchdowns to three different receivers. He has thrown 11 touchdowns in his last three games.
Ayden Bauwens was one of those receivers, and he was responsible for three of Carter's five touchdown receptions. Bauwens had 119 receiving yards on a game-high nine receptions in last week's game (13.2 avg.).
Chase Williams also had 119 receiving yards last week. Williams brought in a touchdown as well. He has a receiving touchdown in every game so far this season.
Isaiah Mattingly was the third Eagle wide receiver to surpass 100 yards receiving in last week's offensive explosion. Mattingly averaged 27.8 yards per reception thanks to his 53-yard touchdown early in the second half. He totaled two in the contest.
Calumet College of St. Joseph is coming off a 42-10 victory against Quincy. The Crimson Wave are 3-1 so far this season with their only loss coming against the Eagles in the first game of the season.
The defense has shined all year and will look to have a big game against a Crimson Wave offense who have scored the second-most points in the Midwest Sprint Football League (MSFL). Trenton Leach has 3.5 sacks in his last two games, as well as putting up two sacks in the first matchup between the Eagles and the Crimson Wave. Last week, Leach had a game-high 11 total tackles and a team-high seven solo tackles.
Keegan Hill has made his presence felt for opposing quarterbacks. Hill has five interceptions in his last two games. He also had an interception in the first Eagles-Crimson Wave matchup this season.
Hayden Cockrell joined Carter in MSFL honors as he won his fourth straight Special Teams Player of the Week title. Cockrell made his only field goal attempt of the game last week as he connected from 39 yards. He also went eight-for-eight on extra-point attempts.
The Eagles offense has been sharing the love in terms of running the ball. A different running back has led each game in rushing for the Eagles. Last week, two different running backs found their way into the end zone on a rush. Zane Wickliffe, who had a team-high 49 yards, and Ashton Williams.
